Spring Season: There will be a spring season open registration for new players for U-6 thru U-8. New player registration fee will be $30 per player. There will be no games played in Galveston due to field conditions from Hurricane Ike. All games will be played in Santa Fe or Texas City. Flyers will be distributed to all schools districts within GCYS. Registration will be at the following locations:
February 28, 2009 Sandhill Crane Soccer Complex in Galveston from 12pm – 4pm
March 7, 2009 RJ Wollam Elementary soccer fields from 12pm – 4pm
March 14, 2009 Mall of the Mainland in Texas City from 12pm – 4pm.
Games will start March 28. There will 8 games that run thru May 23, 2008. There will be no games the weekend of Easter.
Houston Dynamo Presentation: Travis Watkins and Chris Olsen made a presentation to GCYS about becoming a partner in their “Student of the Game” program. We could become a Gold member that would provide an opportunity for us to receive tickets to games, player appearances, and coach’s clinics. They would also allow us to use their marketing tools, such as DynaMobile, Inflatable’s, and Mascot for a single time use at one of our locations for marketing.
This was tabled for further discussion at a future meeting.
Appointment of Head Trainer: Dave proposed that the club could benefit from an overall Head Trainer. This position would be for someone who is a Registered C Licenses Coach. The trainer would monitor practices and ensure that all age levels are learning at an appropriate level. He would also be another contact or sounding board for the coaches in conjunction with Stephanie Millis.
Max Doner nominated Jaime Palco for this position and was seconded by Stephanie Millis. The vote was unanimous.
New Website: Steve Wilson who is employed as a web designer has offered to help re-design our website. He would be able to make it more user friendly and hopefully help make the registration process an easier task. The possibility of GCYS and Affinity to interface for fall registration would be a much needed improvement. Dave has spoken with Carl who is in agreement with this.
Budget Changes: Equipment Handling and Purchases Dave proposed that all nets be taken down after each day of games to help save from having to purchases multiple nets throughout the season due to wear and tear from practices and “street games” being played on the fields. The difficulty of this was explained that it could take a good amount of time, and for now until we have new goals that would make this a simpler job, a decision was made for the nets to be brought down at the end of each season and in case of inclement weather. Burning vs. striping of the fields was also discussed, but was tabled for further discussion at a later time. Purchasing of laptop computer this would be for use of the Registrar and assistance for Registration. This was decided that these would not be purchase at this time. Uniforms the subject was proposed that GCYS only provide shirts for fall registration and that it be up to the parents to provide their own shorts and socks. This was rejected due to the inability for continuity within a team to have the same shorts and socks. We felt that the cost for this was already built in to the cost of registration and for the overall appearance of GCYS these items should continue to be provided. Monitoring of Fundraisers GCYS asks that all large fundraisers that are used for the “club” be approved by the board. Individual team fund raising is fine, but it would be appreciated if the team could notify Stephanie Millis of what fundraisers they are doing. Hopefully In the future their can be a “fundraiser” site on the website to help teams know what other teams are doing for fundraisers.
Marketing and Community Outreach: Possible creation on new committee to help with marketing and community outreach. Dave asked if Jay Sims would Chair this committee. Jay accepted this for the outreach side of this and Dave will help with the marketing side. Monica Barry and Steve Wilson also agreed to be on this committee.
Select Partition: There will be a contest to come up with a name for all Division II / Select teams. Example being “Wavebreakers FC”. Please email your suggestions to Dave Profit. A proposal was made that Division III teams uniforms would be one color and Division II and above would wear a different color. This was tabled and will be discussed again at a later time.
Challenger Summer Camps: There will be a presentation by Challenger at our March meeting for a proposal for our summer camps. This could be used as a tool to recruit pedigree coaches. Housing would need to be provided for camps. Also possibility of season long coach to come and have his own team. Accommodations would need to be provided for an entire season. For one coach, one season would cost $7,000 with accommodations or $12,000 a season without housing.
Nominating Committee Report: Mass email was sent out to all GCYS parents. 15 volunteers were found at local levels. There are still several positions available.
Registrar- Pam Mager will continue to be the Club Registrar with assistance. This was motioned by Jay Sims and seconded by Nikki Verberne. Monica Barry and Jack Barry will help with Galveston registration and Nikki Verberne will help with Santa Fe registration.
Uniform- Max Doner nominated Kathy Doner and was seconded by Nikki Verberne. The vote was unanimous.
Parks- this position is still currently available.
Scheduler-this position in still currently available.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be March 9, 2009. More information will be posted on the GCYS website.
